Privacy and data use
Updated 25 October 2026. This notice describes the current Backky testing service. Contact samrat@hyegro.com for privacy questions or to request removal of Backky server data.
Your storage and selected Google data
Backky uses your private Backblaze B2 bucket to store the photos and videos you choose to back up. You provide a bucket name and a B2 application key. Backky validates the key and keeps it encrypted on its storage server. Your device stores a connection token rather than the B2 secret.
Connecting Google shares your account identifier and email address so Backky can identify the account you chose. For Drive, Backky requests access only to files selected through Google Picker. For Google Photos, Backky accesses items you select in Google Photos Picker. Backky reads selected filenames, media metadata, available sizes and the media bytes to preview and copy your selection.
Copying, progress and cleanup
After you confirm copying and a storage allowance, selected media passes through Backky’s Hostinger server to your B2 bucket. Temporary downloads are removed after each upload attempt. The server keeps encrypted connection credentials, library metadata and import records so you can browse, verify and resume backups. A paused download may remain temporarily after a server interruption until that item is retried or an administrator removes it.
Drive originals are moved to Drive Trash only if you separately request it, the B2 copy is verified and the source has not changed. Backky cannot delete existing Google Photos originals. You must do that yourself after reviewing your backup.
Service providers and notifications
Hostinger hosts the Backky server and its encrypted records. Google provides sign-in and the selected source media. Backblaze stores copies in your bucket. If you enable phone notifications, Backky stores the device’s Expo push token and sends a completion message and item count through Expo and Apple or Google notification delivery. Notification messages do not include filenames or media.
Controls and retention
Use Disconnect in the Google import page to revoke Backky’s Google authorization and remove its stored Google credentials. Google revocation can affect both Drive and Photos if authorized together for the same Google account. You can also revoke access at Google Account connections. Copies already in B2 are retained. Disconnecting storage signs this device out; it does not delete originals, library metadata or completed import records. Contact the address above to request server-record deletion. To permanently remove B2 originals, use your Backblaze account; Backky’s Recently deleted screen is recoverable library metadata and does not erase bucket objects.
Limited use and security
Backky uses Google data for the backup, preview, progress and cleanup features described here. It does not sell Google data, use it for advertising or train general-purpose AI models on it. Backky’s use and transfer of Google API information follows the Google API Services User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements. Service operators should access user data only with permission, for necessary security or troubleshooting, or as required by law.
Connections use HTTPS. Stored server records and credentials are encrypted, and temporary files are private to the storage service. Keep your own B2 credentials restricted to the intended bucket. Google Photos downloads exclude location metadata, and a separate motion-photo video component is not copied in this release.
